Agreement On Social Security, Swiss Foreign Minister In Tirana

Switzerland and Albania are discussing the importance of concluding a social security agreement and setting up a joint economic commission.

This was the topic of discussion between the incumbent Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Gent Cakaja and his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, during the latter’s visit today in Tirana.

The two ministers praised the bilateral interaction with special emphasis on the good work for the implementation of the cooperation strategy 2018-2021, as a strategy that gives priority to joint work, in terms of democratic governance, economic development, infrastructure and health.

Albania and Switzerland enjoy excellent cooperation in the field of multilateral diplomacy, especially in the OSCE. Also, Minister Cakaj informed that support for the candidacies of the two countries as non-permanent members of the Security Council has already been exchanged with Switzerland. Furthermore, Cakaj and Cassis agreed to deepen technical and institutional cooperation in this regard as well.

“Otherwise, we both expressed the immense joy that on the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries, the cooperation between us is not only extremely good, but also growing.” – said Cakaj.

Cakaj expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for its unstinting support over the years, including the post-earthquake reconstruction process and the COVID-19 pandemic management process.
