Ernest Koliqi At The Hour Of Arbëresh During The Tintor Ritual

In 1954 Ernest Koliqi paid a visit to the Arbëresh community in Frasineto invited by Professor Giuseppe Ferrari. The photo shows a moment of the Arbëresh ritual during Easter Tuesday, which is called the Tradition of the Tintors (La tradizione dei Tintori) . On Easter Tuesday, a group of men nicknamed “I Tintori” walk through the village stopping people and asking them if they can pronounce the phrase “tumac me qiqrra / tagliatelle e ceci”. And in case the person interviewed fails to pronounce it, it shows that he does not know Arber and is penalized by shooting him with black smoke (soot).
